In New York for vacation and need a pick-me-up? Perhaps a piece of chocolate will do the trick.
According to Los Angeles Times' Tina Susman, that is just the answer. In an article today, she shows how chocolate in New York isn’t just straight-up chocolate anymore. With a slew of high-end chocolate shops, New York offers everything from the traditional dark and milk to chocolates blended with bacon, curry and wasabi.
One outfit that has made chocolate its business is New York Chocolate Tours. They offer four different, guided tours, ranging in price from about $50 to $80 for their new Union Square Chocolate, Wine and Culture Tour, which “will take you on a fascinating journey into the cultural and chocolate history of the Union Square area.” Tours are generally offered Thursdays through Sundays and last two to three hours.
Don’t have time for a tour but want to satisfy your sweet tooth or those back at home? Here is a list of the chocolate shops mentioned in today’s Los Angeles Times article:

Jacques Torres Chocolate: With locations on the Upper West Side, in Soho and Brooklyn, this decadent shop can fit into most travelers’ itineraries.
Kee’s Choclates: Located in downtown Manhattan, chocolatier Kee Ling Tong can be found making fresh sweets seven days a week.
Vosges Haut-Chocolat: With two locations in New York, Vosges Haut-Chocolat is big on chocolate with bacon, including chocolate dressed in bacon in the shape of a flying pig.
MarieBelle: Another lower Manhattan chocolatier, MarieBelle is unique in that it is perhaps the perfect place for the chocolate addict who wants to hide his or her addiction. Some of its sweets are made to look like other things, including river rocks and olives.
